Southborough is a town in Worcester County.  The town is primarily residential, however, a tenth of the town’s area is flooded by the Sudbury Reservoir.  Light industrial land use is concentrated along main roads, primarily Route 9.  As of 2022, the residential property tax rate is $16.28.

Virtusa Corporation is an information technology services company founded in Sri Lanka with its headquarters in Southborough. The company provides IT consulting, business consulting, systems implementation and application outsourcing services to large enterprises and software vendors.

Southborough has six public schools. The four elementary and middle schools are inside town limits with the two high schools, which are regional schools, in adjoining towns.  Southborough is also home to a private secondary school, St. Mark’s, which was founded in 1865. Fay School, the oldest junior boarding schools in the nation, is an independent, coeducational day and boarding school founded in 1866.
